Activities

Crete offers its visitors countless outdoor activities. The common denominator is nature, with its wonderful mountain - and seascapes and the precious fruits of the sea and land.

Sports fans can choose from horse riding, mountain biking, golf (The Crete Golf Club at Hersonissos) and sea sports (ski, paragliding, surfing, scuba diving). Discover the unspoilt beauty of the area while horse riding on the Fourni plateau or mountain biking between picturesque villages and fields of crops and the Dikteon Cave where Zeus was born.

For lovers of fine food, Crete is an immense gastronomic paradise, with wine-tourism and agritourism having grown massively over recent years. If you want ‘foodie’ activities or agritourism trips, visit wineries and rural cooperatives for wine-tastings or to sample local dishes, or various local farms to experience rural life up close; get involved in planting, harvesting, grape-pressing or cooking activities!

If you’re a fan of alternative sports such as mountaineering and climbing, trekking and caving, there are countless options available. Just outside of Malles is European path E4. Follow it and recharge your batteries as you explore verdant pine forests and small villages.

Moreover, small and large gorges (Sarakina and Havgas) are ideal for mild and demanding walks while the Dikteon Cave where Zeus was born (near the village of Psychro) with its stalactites and stalagmites, and a beautiful lake, is one of the absolute musts. It is located at an altitude of 1,025 m and visitors can explore 250 m within the cave. Sturdy footwear is needed. For lovers of the off-road driving, jeep safaris are organised on the slopes of Mt. Dikti amid the olive groves and vineyards.
